Hardware Tester

This hardware testing utility was originally designed to assist in the triage process of Chromebooks to enable faster repairs. At one point it was accessible at chromebooktester.com but I have since decided to stop paying for that domain. Despite its original intent, the features available here should work on most Operating Systems.

System Info:

Microphone Test

You might be prompted for microphone access. Make sure microphone is on and set volume to an audible level before testing. You can adjust the recording length between 3 and 300 seconds (5 minutes). Once the recording is finished, it will automatically play back.

Keyboard Test

Select the text field and begin typing

Although the US-English QWERTY layout is shown below, if you press the "A" key on an AZERTY layout, the "Q" will be highlighted below. Your actual input in the text box below should still be based on your current keyboard layout.

Keyboard Test Limitations

Some devices do not report media control keys as keyboard input. Due to this, it is possible that your media control buttons work, but do not get highlighted below.

Touch-based keyboards such as the ones you might find on phones or tablets are virtualized and do not report keyboard input the same way a physical keyboard does. Therefore, these will not be highlighted on the keyboard diagram below. However, you can still type in the text box.
